In 1975 Playboy Magazine commissioned designer Syd Mead to design a futuristic vehicle fit for an international playboy. The vehicle that Mead thought up was one part camper van, one part limousine and one part bachelor pad on wheels. He called it the Playboy Land Yacht and it is about as tasteful as you would expect.
Despite being garish and distasteful the Land Yacht was surprisingly high tech (in design, I don’t think they actually made it). A central computer system controlled the driving whilst you have your way with the Playmate of the month. Wide screen TVs and built in telephones are dotted around the cabin.

Leslie Buck, the designer of the ubiquitous and iconic Anthora disposable coffee cup, has died.
I remember when this was the cup you got for every takeout coffee in New York City. It’s being surpassed by Starbucks and other coffee stores, who use their own cups now, but it’s still an instant moment of NYC nostalgia for me.
Who knew someone actually designed it! I thought it sprang fully formed, into the hands of NYPD traffic cops.
